August List

We’re already one week into August, but there’s still plenty of time to hit those end-of-summer bucket list items! I came across a Mama on Instagram who shared her “August List” and I immediately felt inspired to create one myself — full of things I want to do with my family, things I may want to purchase, things I want to create, read, plant, etc. Those end-of-summer activities and memories that must be made and can’t be missed. I would LOVE to hear yours as well!

I recently made a big, scary, exciting career shift. One that has given me more space and time to pursue opportunities I previously didn’t have the energy for. My exact future is uncertain, as anyone’s is, but I am so optimistic that I’m taking the right steps to get to a level of happiness, contentment and balance that I believe everyone strives for.

Let’s dive into my August List —

DOING

1. Offering organization services — I want to create this fun side hustle of organizing people’s spaces to create a more calm environment for them to live. Read all about this here.

2. Playing with our new kitten — We adopted an 8-week-old kitten, Leo, at the very end of July, and we’re having the best time welcoming him into our home. Everett is so obsessed with him, as are Zach & I, and Leo is Bodhi’s new best friend. Truly. They play all day and cuddle when they sleep. 🥹

READING

1. No Bad Kids by Janet Lansbury — I’m learning so much so fast about how to raise a good human, how to discipline with respect and how to communicate with our toddler effectively. Thank you to Tessa for the recommendation!

2. The Postnatal Depletion Cure by Dr. Oscar Serrallach — Can’t recommend this enough if you are a person who has ever birthed a baby! What I’m learning, and hope you do too, is how to properly recover after giving birth. We are so depleted of nutrients, energy, sleep, etc, and it’s truly a challenge to recover, physically and mentally. This book offers insight into that process.

PLANTING

1. Fall vegetables — We still need to get a full Fall plan in order, but so far, I’m thinking we’ll be planting carrots, greens and radish, and potentially broccoli and brussel sprouts.

2. Fall flowers — I just planted marigolds and they are sprouting so well! Probably going to pick up some mums from the nursery at the end of the month to create an inviting front door scene.

ORGANIZING

1. Everett’s toys — I’m constantly trying to figure out a system of where to store toys that are not in rotation and how to organize them in our living room in an aesthetically pleasing way. This month, I shall nail down the system. Stay tuned for a before and after on Instagram where I will also offer tips if you have the same issue!

2. Holiday decor — Yes, the holidays will be here before we know it, and currently, our decor is scattered around the whole house. I plan to gather it all into one area, group like-items, store properly in bins and place in a spare closet until it’s time to deck the halls.

CREATING

1. A new morning routine — I am planning to wake up one hour before Everett so that I can ease into the morning. By creating this time for myself, I can prepare my day peacefully, check-in with how I’m feeling, and offer my body what it needs (a workout, extra hydration, a more nourishing meal) before the hustle of the day with an energetic one-year-old begins.

2. My design portfolio — I worked at an agency and a start-up for several years, so there was no need to keep up with my design portfolio. Now since I am no longer with these companies, it’s time to add fresh work that I’m so proud of! Check out the few projects I’ve added here and stay tuned for more 😊

Please share with me your August List! Keep it as simple or robust as you’d like. This is about creating the life you want to live, every single day.
